Are you ready for the 2011 Hurricane season?
Here are some questions to get you started:

  • Do you have contact information printed out where you can access it in case a power outage would affect network or cell phone access?
  • Do you have important papers and valuables collected and in a sealed plastic bag
  • Do you have a full tank of gas? And some extra cash?
  • Do you have access to a NOAA Weather Radio and flashlights (and a supply of fresh batteries)? Do you have a generator and gasoline?
  • Have you assembled supplies such as water, food and medications? After a hurricane, we could be without services (grocery stores and gas stations) for 5-7 days.
  • Is your emergency kit ready? First aid kit?
  • Do you know the steps you would take to help your department prepare for a hurricane? Take the time to be better prepared now in order to be safe and protect your property. For more information, visit http://www.ready.gov/america.

Save the Date to Save a Life!

Join the American Red Cross as we host the Gabrielle Giffords Honorary Save-a-Life Saturday on March 19, 2011.

This Saturday March 19th, in more than 100 locations across the nation, including the Gilruth center, The American Red Cross will provide fast and easy classes to teach the basics of hands-only CPR, the treatment of shock and how to treat wounds. The classes will be shortened versions of Red Cross training courses, lasting approximately 45 minutes to one hour and offered multiple times during the day.

Best of all, the courses, which normally cost $25, are being offered free of charge for this event through the generosity of our sponsors, Safeway and Walgreens.

    Driving in Winter Weather

I had office safety videos ready for this week, yet mother nature had other plans. Hopefully we won't need the suggestions in the videos and the ice and snow will pass us by, but better safe than sorry...
