Beware of the Dark Side!
The Dark Side (a.k.a. unsafety) is everywhere. During this installment of the DDMS Health & Safety Blog we will show young Padawan learners how to deal with The Dark Side...
Stop, Drop and Roll:
No, it's not the latest dance move, but it helps if you are in a light saber fight and your clothing catches fire!
Siths in disguise:
Every young Padawan should beware any Jedi Master who offers to take you to Naboo and give you power converters.
Light Saber Safety:
Every Jedi Master should take care to keep their light sabers out of untrained Padawan hands.

Escalator Safety
Folks are finding more ways to "play around" with escalators. There are 1. Escalator Spins and 2. Escalator Jumps. This behavior doesn't always go well. Sometimes it does...Sometimes it doesn't. The DDMS Safety Blog advises against such unsafe frivolity.
Escalator Spins:
Escalator Jumps:

Drunk Drivers Caught on Tape!
Hello Everyone,
I think we can all agree that driving drunk is pretty dumb. Texas is known for having lax DUI/DWI laws and lots of drunk driving. Please be careful.
Below are several examples of drunk drivers and Drinking & Driving PSAs:

Lemon Safety & Crane Safety Pt. 2!
This is another awesome reader submission. This particular reader isn't a member of the DDMS crew, but they wanted to make sure we were aware of the potential hazards regarding lemons.
Now for yet another reader submission. This was sent in to be an addendum to our previous Crane Safety installment.
I would like to thank our readers for these great submissions! Here here...

JSC Total Safety & Health Day Overload!
Hey Gang,
Coming on Friday January 25, 2008 we will celebrate Safety and Health at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Tx. An enormous amount of info can be found at the Safety and Health Day Website .
Per the email sent out on Monday here is the DDMS Plan for Safety and Health Day.
1. Healthy Breakfast - Think of this as a healthy breakfast potluck. We can bring in various healthy/nutritional items and discuss their benefits. This means you, yes you, can/will participate and bring something!
2. View JSC Exhibits - At 9:30am the exciting display of Safety & Health Exhibits opens on the "JSC Mall". Please be prepared to have your safety consciousness blown away.
3. I have committed the team to fill out the 7 question survey at survey link . Please fill out when possible.
4. There will be a "JHA" - Job Hazard Analysis for each work area. This will be performed by members of the "JSC" - JIMMS Safety Committee. Such analysis will review Chemical Hygiene Plans, Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plans etc.
5. Emergency Information & Evacuation - Verify emergency contact info. Discuss and review evacuation procedures for Building 46.
6. Safety/Health Work Area Inspections - Much like the Job Hazard analysis there will be a Work Area Inspection.
7. Hazard Communication - We have been committed to verify that the required Hazard Communication training we have already done in Satern has indeed been completed.
8. Other Mandatory Training - We have been committed to verify that we have finished the other mandatory required training from last year. For instance, IT Security, Export Control, etc.
9. Walk/Run Participation - There is a 2k walk/5k run at the Gilruth at 3:30pm Fri 1/25. I have committed 2 participants from the DDMS area. Registration is at: registration link. Meredith Getteau has already volunteered so there is only 1 slot left! Of course, more than 2 can participate if you feel the need.
